ABOUT THE DRAGON SISTERS
Issa Dragon(ID) & Odessa Dragon(OD) are an award-winning multi hyphenated performance art duo based in Brooklyn. This sisterhood and collaboration began while Issa and Odessa were studying at the North Carolina School of The Arts. They are now both professors at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance.
Their individual careers as professional performers include contracts with The Martha Graham Dance Company (OD), Gallim Dance (ID), Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company (OD), Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More (ID) and The Metropolitan Opera (OD).
Together they have presented work at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, NYU Tisch, Carnegie Museum of Art, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Georges Berges Gallery, Jacobs Pillow and Gibney Dance.
The Dragon Sisters are also major forces and staples in the NYC nightlife scene. They have won three Glam Awards: 2021 Breakthrough Artists of the Year, 2021 and 2022 Best Duo/Group. In 2022 The Dragon Sisters were honored as official ambassadors for NYC Pride.
The sisters have presented live music in collaboration with Amazon Music, Summer Stage Festival, Afro Punk, Queer Capita, MOBIFest and The Hard Rock Hotel.
Their work as artists and leaders have been covered by media outlets including WWD, Billboard, Vogue, PAPER Magazine, Elle Magazine, Wonderland, Ladygunn, Good Morning America, Guinness World Records and The New York Times.
A Dragon Sisters experience is equal parts dynamic synchronous movement, lyric incantations, skin, glitter, and hip-hop vibrations that reach audiences in their viscera. Their music and performances pay homage to their ancestry and black & brown queer futurity. Their music is a hypnotic concoction of southern grit with a bronx pulse. Their style interprets femininity and power to promote possibility and love.
